About

We produce and sell premium raw apiculture products from Portugal.

DrApis' artisanal raw honey is produced and extracted using exclusively traditional methods, preserving all the natural vitamins, enzymes, phytonutrients and other nutritional elements produced by bees.

It is made in Alentejo (Southern Portugal) by the local subspecie of honey bees, Apis mellifera iberiensis. These bees work during Spring and Summer, gathering nectar from the annual wildflowers that sprout in Alentejo's dehesa.

At DrApis we let nature take its time. We let bees brew their honey until the fermentation and dehydration processes are fully complete. This renders a ripe and nutrient-rich honey with down to 16% humidity level, ready to be stored for millennia without spoiling.

While gathering nectar to produce honey (bees' carbohydrates source) bees also gather flower pollen, which is fermented in the hive and turned into bee bread (also known as perga). Bee bread is consumed by bees for its high protein, minerals and vitamins content, making up for honey's deficiencies. DrApis' bee bread has a very rich flavour due to the broad variety of pollen sources: all the same wildflowers as the honey.

Our beeswax is also unfiltered and chemical free, and ready for multiple uses such as: skin care and cosmetics, culinary arts, surfboard wax, candle-making and boot polishing (bulling).

DrApis' raw propolis is made on the same hives. Worker bees use resins from cork oaks (Quercus suber), holm oaks (Quercus ilex), rockroses (Cistus spp.) and many other native trees and bushes. The result is a dark brown propolis that can be used to prepare tinctures, ointments or eaten as is.
